    This is the first edition of this work. When a fifth edition was published in 2016, the author, in his new foreword, explains the underlying objective of this work: “The first edition of this work dates back to 1973. It is useful to provide students, practitioners, and researchers with a manual combining French and Lebanese law regarding family property law. The writing of the book drew upon concepts common to both legal systems. It was the first work entitled *Les Libéralités* (Gifts), to cover what was then still referred to as “Successions-Donations” (Inheritances-Donations). It was also the first legal work with a brick-red dust jacket; at a time when the seriousness of law books dictated a single color, white or dark.”
