“Acts of notoriety” are jurisdictional decisions of the courts which, while not having the force of rulings issued by the Supreme Courts, permanently establish the doctrine of the court or tribunal on a specific point. This collection, compiled by the civil lieutenant of the Châtelet (today this would be the president of the Chamber in charge of emergency procedures), is an important source for Parisian law and, in particular, for the interpretation of the Custom of Paris, insofar as these acts of notoriety were rarely recorded (see, for example, the method of calculating the time required for the statute of limitations to apply to a debt, the rules for the construction of land registers, the concept of the right of access to the ladder, etc.). Denisart's collection is superior to that of Le Camus (see cat. 12 no. 97).
